Known for her lyricism, drama, passion and beauty, award-winning composer Carol Worthey began composing at age three and a half. Her powerful and deeply moving compositions have been performed on three continents, gracing top stages from Carnegie Hall to St. Martin-in-The-Fields. Among her mentors are Leonard Bernstein, Darius Milhaud and Vincent Persichetti. A champion of women's music, Carol has been honored with the Mu Phi Epsilon ACME Award.

Eight to ten composers who are Facebook Friends of Douglas Townsend have submitted pieces to be performed in a concert that is FREE to the public. Facebook Friend Dan Simon, a young filmmaker, will videotape the performances for YouTube, and Facebook Friend Ken Hedgecock, of Classical Music Discoveries, will podcast the concert worldwide for a month.
 
The purpose of the concert is to make audiences aware of the composers and the musicians performing their pieces.
 
The confirmed composers are: Tania Leon, Douglas Townsend, Daniel Dorff, Steve Cohen, Bruce Lazarus, Katherine Hoover, Nataliya Medvedovskaya, and Carol Worthey. A reception follows so everyone can meet!
 
Musicians for eight pieces (SIX WORLD PREMIERES!!) by eight composers are confirmed.
  • Pianist Mirian Conti will premiere Katherine Hoover's new work 'Thin Ice'.

  • Facebook Friends Beth Levin, piano, and Yuki Numata, violin, will premiere Carol Worthey's duo 'Romanza'.

  • Pianist David Oei, flutist Albert Pae, hornist Kelly Csillam, and Townsend String Quartet members Eriko Sato and Jessica Park, violins, Chiu-Chen Liu, viola, and Rosalyn Clarke, cello, will premiere Douglas Townsend's 'Chamber Concerto No. 3' for Flute, Horn, Piano and String Quartet.

  • Bruce Lazarus, piano, and Barbara Siesel, flute, will premiere Lazarus' new work 'November Sonata'.

  • Piano duo Miriam Brickman and Nataliya Medvedovskaya, Pamela Sklar, flute, and Felicity Graham, soprano and narrator, will premiere the complete version of Nataliya Medvedovskaya's suite 'The Wonderful Adventures of Nils'.

  • The 'Overture' from Steve Cohen's 'String Quartet No. 1' will be premiered by Machiko Ozawa and Lynn Bechtold, violins, Edmundo Ramirez, viola, and Jisoo Ok, cello. Pianist Adam Kent will perform Tania Leon's 'Mistica'.

  • Facebook Friend flutist Cindy Anne Strong will perform with composer-clarinetist Daniel Dorff in Dorff's own 'Three Romances' for flute and clarinet.
